Beginner Surf Lessons: 1.5 to 2 hours long

     We begin with instruction on the beach in front of our wave. For about 20 minutes, we  go over the basics while always watching the waves to see where it's breaking. Learning to read the waves is one of the hardest things but essental to surfing. We will be studying them and breaking down their components throughout the lesson.
     We teach you about the surfboard design and how to handle it on the beach and in the water.  Proper positioning is very important. We will teach you where and how to lay on the board and paddle correctly. We want all our moves in the water to be as efficient as possible so we are able to paddel harder and surf longer.
    There are many different ways to do a pop-up. We will show you many options. People have different bodies and move different ways. We want to find the best way for you. We break our pop-ups down into little steps. We need to eliminate bad habits before they start.
     How we stand and ride a surfboard crucial for speed and balance. The surfer stance often feels weird or unnatural to first time surfers. Its not a natural feeling for most.  Starting with a bad stance will make it more difficult to improve your surfing in the future. Again, we will break down the positioning of your body as well as explain the advantages.
     Safety is our up-most priority. We will teach how to to wipe-out, what to do when you're nose-diving, where to paddle out, safe places to surf, and what to do if a big wave comes. Suring is a very safe sport but unpreditable things can happen in the ocean.
     The rest of the time we will spend in the water catching waves. We are not interested in just catching the whitewater and going straight to the beach. We want to catch the green water. To get the feeling of the speed and power of the wave as we're gliding down the face. The advantage of having an instructor is that he/she will be able to read the waves. We will put you in the right spot, push you in the direction of the wave and let you know when to do the pop-up. You will get many waves.
     The last part of the lesson, we will discuss surfing etiquette. There are certain rules that all surfers follow that keeps us safe and gives order. Learning these rules could save you an from having a collision or getting yelled at. Both guaranteed to ruin a surf session.
